By Søren Nielsen, member until 2022

Then it happened that everyone has been waiting for almost 2 years. The rollout of StretchKiKata – the unique and very exciting kata that is now part of the Yakami Shinsei-ryu toolbox along with KataFIT. Another step has been taken in the direction of improving the well-being of our members and giving something good to the world.

StretchKiKata - in colloquial speech SKK - is a unique exercise in stretching muscles, tendons, nerve pathways and of course initiating Ki - the inner energy that we all depend on 🙂 The exercises in SKK are historically from the samurai era and Kimu Sensei has put them together thus they create an important tool in our toolbox.

Already at the beginning of 2020, SKK was to be rolled out for the first time - but then Corona came - the second attempt was in autumn 2020 - but then Denmark was shut down. Now it's all good times 3 and this time it will probably work. Despite 3 attempts, this does not mean that SKK has been idle. Kimu Sensei has, of course, spent the time developing it so that the version of SKK that was taught on this course really got everyone enrolled the whole way. And it must be said that there were many who had to join - with almost 70 registered, it was clear that Shindenkan was back and that all the members really wanted to show that in Shindenkan we stand strong together.

As an organization and local school in Shindenkan, it is fantastic that our members support in this way and show that they want to continue the unity we all created during the Corona crisis. The unity has not diminished; on the contrary, it has become stronger and more evident. It can actually be felt in every nook and cranny of the organization. The local schools are growing and the members' mental health is getting stronger and stronger the further into the season we get. The energy that radiates and which was extremely clear during this KataFIT and SKK course is gourmet food for everyone, because it precisely helps everyone to grow and believe that the future is bright and very clear.

As mentioned, SKK is part of the toolbox together with KataFIT. It is therefore also very natural that the KataFIT course contains SKK, thus the common thread and the connection becomes clear to the participants. There were many newcomers to this course and there is no doubt that they were clearly shown that there is always a completely unique and safe atmosphere during the courses and especially when Kimu Sensei teaches, because he takes everyone on a journey, including all those who had participated in the course before – there is always something new to learn and it is never too late 🙂

In this autumn 2021, all parts of Shindenkan are working hard to get back to normality - even if wave 3-4 of Corona sweeps over Denmark. It should not hold us back and we have all taken responsibility with safety and "look after each other" procedures. It is important that security is created so that mental health is also cared for and returns to normality.

KataFIT and SKK help to create normalcy because here the body – mind and spirit are trained in a holistic exercise that can be felt and especially if the Ki starts to wash through the body – several of the participants noticed this on their own bodies in the days after the course – which is fantastic 🙂

The time has now come for the whole thing to be rolled out in the local schools and also in the living rooms at home. Kimu Sensei and Honbu Instructor Jens Hanshi-Dai showed with their own Yoga mats that KataFIT and SKK can be trained anywhere and anytime - it doesn't require more space than you can lie down 🙂 And instead of lying on the sofa, you can lie on the floor and be good to yourself with a KataFIT and SKK - it doesn't get much better.

The toolbox in Yakami Shinsei-Ryu Karate-Do gradually contains a number of tools that can help and prevent tension headaches, neck myosis, knee and ankle problems, emotional challenges - yes, everything can be initiated and remedied with the right tools. And in order for it not to be a lie, it creates an extreme mental and spiritual well-being. There should also be no doubt that the toolbox contains much more than what was mentioned, but I wonder if we will all find this out as the tools are used in the right way 🙂 Everyone knows that you can drive a nail in with a drill, but a hammer is now better in the long run – both for the nail and the drill.

As Kimu Sensei went through the exercises in SKK, it became more and more clear that the participants got their inner energies going. This could result in fatigue, better breathing and far more energy and well-being - because there were more and more smiles on the lips as the day progressed.

Corona has created a darkness for everyone and many are struggling to get out of the darkness. To get out of a darkness, you have to decide to do something about it. And what you can do is take one step at a time. Sometimes you find the light right away and other times you have to take several steps, but no matter what, the light will show itself if you do something.

KataFIT and SKK require action because here you have to do something to get the best out of it - but again one step at a time and all of a sudden you have an inner light that can show you the way - isn't it just fantastic - you become the light in one's own life and you can find your own way and perhaps guide others out of the darkness 🙂

In any case, it was clear that all the participants on the KataFIT and SKK course saw the light and now it is up to everyone to hold on so that we in Shindenkan can show the way out of the darkness and into the light for ourselves, as for others - winter is at the door with the dark time and with our light, we can create normality and an illuminated path for others besides ourselves - look, it's completely in the spirit of Shindenkan.
