Jujutsu Course 1, 4 December 2015

Karate - That's where you bow deeply to each other, says oosh, and do 1000 push-ups on your knuckles! Outside in the snow! - No?

But it wasn't snowing, so when Shindenkan Honbu-dojo held Jujutsu Course 1, we had to stay inside to train fall technique.

Whether you have to use the learned fall technique because you slip in snow and ice, or because an opponent throws you, or to learn better body control, time will tell.

Late Friday afternoon, over 30 participants had turned up, including 2/3 JokoKidz, and there were many who were happy, and also some who had butterflies in their stomachs.

The purpose of the course is to provide participants with safety and security. Partly for Jujutsu courses 2 and 3, and in the other branches of the multi-track martial art Yakami Shinsei-ryu, but also to provide safety and security in everyday life, where it may be needed, be it in connection with slips, crashes on a bicycle, toboggan or in connection with self-defense. What we learn in the dojo (training hall) is not just theory, but can also be used in the real world.

In order to gain security and safety, you have to break some boundaries and overcome yourself, because even if there are tatami mats on the floor, it is a victory to fall with full intention, time after time after time.

But everyone did it with great zeal, and with a focus on the correct and optimal technique much of the time in slow motion. As we worked our way through the different falls, the technique got more and more under control. The many JokoKidz and JokoTeens kept up the spirit all the way, a great performance, but the adults must also be praised, because a small 2 meter tall man/woman doesn't just fold up in a backwards roll fall. But as many had to admit, "you can do much more than yourself, and others have told you to", "and you can do 10 times more than your parents think" 🙂

In the end, everyone gave the gas with monkey jumps that developed into windmills, and thus we also got a small dose of Disney fun this Friday night.

Thanks to all participants for a good attitude and high spirits throughout the course.
