POMW I

For the fourth time in history, a POMW course started. The last time was in 2013 and this time approx. 14 participants. The first course is POMW I, which is a so-called dry training course with a focus on correct POMW shooting technique and safety.

POMW I is divided into three course modules. The first module POMW A was conducted in May 2015 and it was a 3-hour Ryugi part with a review of the entire POMW process. What are we to do with it, what can we learn from it and how/why was it actually created. All headings to which the individual participant received an answer. After the ryugi part, the POMW Shooting Techniques handbook was reviewed with a focus on correct hand position, posture and breathing. After that, the participants had approx. 4 weeks to practice before module POMWIB ran off the shelf in the POMW course.

POMW IB is a dry training course where the participants have the opportunity to train range shooting according to DSkyU and DGI's rules. It is also a re-cap on the ryugi that you can quickly forget. But we'll probably have to make sure that doesn't happen. POMW IB also shows the participants how important it is to have correct weapon handling. In the POMW case, it is correct handling according to the POMW Shooting Techniques Handbook created by Kimu Sensei. If you follow the POMW Shooting Techniques Handbook without compromising, you are guaranteed to go from 0- very high, very quickly. Of course, this also requires that you listen and correct when you are corrected during the coursesJ

Many participants in the POMW course, both in the current and in the previous ones, have thought a lot about why we need to learn how to handle modern firearms. It is part of the multi-track martial arts education and as the course progresses, the participants find out that it is not really about the weapon itself but more about the person behind it. And then it is that most people can see a common thread to many other parts of the multi-track martial arts system and also to life itself - which is a fantastic experience

The last dry training course is POMWIC and D. It is a re-cap of A and B and an introduction to several shooting disciplines. Among other things. IPSC – Practical shooting while moving. This is where the challenge increases considerably. One thing is to shoot from a stationary position, another is to do it while moving and at the same time have the same handling of the weapon - which means that you can actually hit well.

IPSC shooting is considered shooting's formula 1. And for good reason. It is not easy to shoot while moving and at the same time have to remember many different rules. But with the right setting before, during, after and between the shots, you can actually get a good result out of it if you want.

In addition to insight into the functions of the modern weapon, the POMWI course modules are also a safety course regarding the correct handling of firearms. That is that even if airguns are fired during POMW I, they must be handled as if they were real pistols. This is done to prepare the participants' further course in POMW II and possibly POMW III. These courses are so-called wet training courses and here you shoot with real guns and real ammunition. During POMW I, a small cracker will result in a DQ. That is 2 minutes on the bench where you can think about your own actions and what consequence it might have if it were on a real shooting range and with real weapons. This little cracker can have fatal consequences for the lives of others and your own.

This is also why during the POMW I course, much is made of the safety equipment. If you do not have the correct safety equipment, you are not allowed to shoot. After all, it's about taking responsibility for yourself and others.

POMWI C and D finished with an IPSC course. That is a course that is built so that the participants get an experience of what it is like to shoot while moving, against several targets and change magazines along the way so that there was enough ammunition for the entire course.

An experience that everyone coped with very well and that everyone thought was really fun, even though it's not a game.

All POMW I 2015 participants are now ready for POMW II and some even for POMW III. They are looking forward to it and they also have good reason to do so 🙂
