POMW TSM C.1; Can Shindenkan POMWs stand the distance….

By Martin Hansen, Member until 2018

TLUS POMW 1 "dry training" conditions are limited by an ordinary gymnasium

We therefore use simulations of distances, and protect what we borrow and therefore use wooden boards and shock absorbers

7 m simulate a distance up to approx. 12 m and 10 m simulate a distance up to approx. 21 m to the goal

POMW uses standard targets for 5 m distance, and DDS DSkyU targets for 10 m, 15 and 25 m,

We use DSkyU DSF IPSC discs 1/1 and 2/3, Airgun standard poppers and Plates, as well as other range aids

POMW "Dry training" uses; CZ 75 no blowback co2 airguns, professional SIRT laserguns, toy and water guns

As written in the last article about POMW TSM B, 3 weeks later there would be the first follow-up and continuing course POMW TSM C.1. Essential for this course and the whole message and clue was setting, setting and setting which also beautifully links to the ongoing Hsing-I TSM course as well, it is, in Kimu Sensei's words, no coincidence that the 2 courses run in parallel. The setting is exactly what should be the small difference between a POMW student with a martial arts background and e.g. a soldier who does not have that mental attitude in their training. But it was probably just as interesting if, after the 3 weeks, the course could already confirm Minouchi Sensei's thesis, and there would be a difference in the shooting from the last course, where almost all participants had no shooting experience, and to this course, where everyone had to train preferably dry 30 minutes daily according to the POMW shooting manual and the doctrine "Imagination is very important" 🙂

It was with great excitement, enthusiasm and nervousness that the 24 POMW students turned up late on Friday 01-06-2012 to give it another go. This time it was to participate in a pure RYUHA POMW TSM C.1. Only 5 min. belatedly, Kimu Sensei was able to start the day's shooting. In order to be able to set the standard for the day, Kimu Sensei would like to know how optimally the participants had prepared over the last 3 weeks. You can say that this was an attitude test, as the participants were divided according to whether they had prepared and trained dry every day and then with decreasing intervals, which was of course revealing, but also a learning experience, as everyone must get maximum benefit from the course. The participants then went together in pairs and found the "shooting range" which, just like in the last course, was marked with distances to the shooting targets of 3, 5, 8, 10 and 15 m respectively. Kimu Sensei quickly rehearsed about safety rules, where a breach of these, like last would lead to a DQ on the bench. the further distance you got from the disc, i.e. more time to run through the POMW shooting manual step structure inside the head. The shooting itself went really well and the first few hours flew by and Kimu Sensei and the participants were really happy as they could actually hit something not just at the 3m but actually all the way out at the 10m (21m). One might be tempted to say that the very dry training in the POMW shooting manual worked! J, which as Kimu Sensei emphasized "There is no difference between training the basics in Yakami Shinsei-Ryu and shooting", both are the foundation and if you have trained well on it, it also works when you have to use it.

In preparation for the next day's training, Kimu Sensei had prepared an extra challenge. The participants were divided into teams of three and in turn these teams were allowed to try their hand at a SIRT (Shot Indicating Resetting Trigger, a laser marking pistol that simulates a real Glock 17/22 pistol and has the weight and trigger of one such and largely costs the same..). For this purpose, 6 IPSC sports discs were suspended (3 full size and 3 smaller to simulate greater distance). With a SIRT, you show and train optimal POMW shooting technique, as the SIRT's green laser light reveals all errors in the trigger, handstand, etc. All participants got time in the company of the SIRT, while the other participants continued with air-guns at the various distances to the discs. Very precisely around 20.30 everyone had got through with the SIRT and it was time to finish.

Ending in a circle, as if gathered around a campfire, it was time before everyone went home for a well-deserved rest before the next day's TSM C.2 and C.3. Kimu Sensei looked really pleased with today's effort from all the participants. He had come to today's lesson in the hope that the level was high with the participants and that they had kept the discipline for the last 3 weeks and you could see an actual improvement. If he had had a concern, it had been washed away by the rain that was now falling in bars outside the training room and a big smile spread on his lips when he and the participants could state that they had proven Minouchi Sensei's theory as far as range shooting was concerned and actually more than expected, so he now had to go home and change the next day's courses in POMW. This again shows Kimu Sensei's uncompromisingness and willingness to meet people where people are, regardless of the time aspect, because if people show will they must also get maximum benefit, there is no reason to waste each other's time.

It was more than clear to see that the 3 weeks had been of great importance and that the POMW shooting manual works 100%, if no one jumps over where the fence is lowest or is tempted to train with bullets and gas, when you have been told that you MUST train on the basis, but that's how it is with all Yakami Shinsei-ryu. There was actually a marked difference from the first POMW course, where many could not hit a "loading gate" even at short range, to now 3 weeks later with only dry training, where the 90% of the students delivered so-called "groupings" in the shots and the 80% even exclusively in alpha zone (middle black area of a target).

Today's course was over and the participants could go home and continue training for the next day's challenges, which would include transitions, shooting in motion and maybe a hint of IPSC..wauuu 🙂 But you can read more about that in the next article.
