Shiatsu – finger pressure

By Simon Bruun, Member until 2012

The basic Shiatsu training is divided into three course parts over 2 months, during which we must carry out a double-digit number of practical treatments so that we can learn and get a certain routine in place. The education ends with an exam where there is a pass/fail.

In the first part of the course's three parts, we initially started by hearing where the shiatsu method originated, what it is used for and how it works, as it was established that the shiatsu massage was often performed by blind Japanese people and that it is assumed that it is older than the philosophy of acupuncture, we were introduced to the various grips and techniques.

It turned out that we were put through a whole massage process with our partner. We were given approximately five minutes for each technique, which was mostly enough to get a feel for the techniques and the area you were working in.

After two weeks, we met again in Greve and were ready to soak up the learning. This time we learned about the circuit of the meridian paths and learned about several different points on the body such as Can relieve headache or bowel rhythm.

Also on this course we had a lot of practice, however we had difficulty achieving all the techniques, which was a shame. So it turned into a lot of homework and subsequent questions.

On the last course, we got the first two courses forged together purely theoretically and learned about the meridian gauge and the organ clock. On the last course, we performed only one technique on our massage partner: leg extension!

The purpose of the leg extension is to straighten the body, as many people do not have the same length of legs, and it also came as a surprise and with a lot of gasps when we saw the result of the leg extension.

All in all, I think the course gave a good insight into the teachings of alternative diseases and I am also quite sure that I will use some of the techniques in the future.
