“Round and round”, Article on physical testing

By Martin E. Hansen, Member until 2018

It is 3.30pm and the Golf lands in front of Nilpeter in Slagelse, where I have to pick up Søren G.. He gets into the car, confused as you are now when you are interrupted during the hectic work day. His first comment "well, are we ready?". How ready can you really be? A long drive awaits, a drive towards today's hard work, which must be carried out in the familiar surroundings of Tjørnelyskolen. The first planned stop is 17 km. from Slagelse at the Hydro-Texaco tank at Sorø on the recommendation of Søren G, as he likes to see the depots filled up before today's excesses. Trading is actually going pretty fast, and I'm not particularly surprised by Søren's purchases at the tank, since you can't get protein drinks and amino acids or EPO, instead it's 2 Kingsize Bounty and a big Congo beer.

THEN WE ARE READY!!!!

We arrive at Tjørnelyskolen, where Jens is already waiting. After this, Per arrives in the company bucket. Then all we need is Janus. Now that Janus has finally found the school, we can get started with the first part of the physical test, which for everyone is a Bronze circle. Of course, Janus arrives late, but he completes the Bronze circle first in the time 4:57, followed by Per in 5:30, then the undersigned in the time 5:38 and last but not least Søren in the time 7:02, the Bounty has done wonders! We run out of school to drive approx. 1 km to Greve Hallen, where the next part of the physical test will take place. First, the local toilet is visited, where the water bottles are filled up and the bladder is relieved. We move out to the running track, where the smell of burnt rubber fills the nostrils (we haven't run yet). It turns out to be the half-wet orange rubber track drying up in the sun.

From this moment on, I act as a timekeeper as I "unfortunately" do not have to be entertained with several kilometers round and round. At the same time, I will be a telephone operator for Per if Quinde is due to give birth soon. "You must only take it if it is Camilla..." it comes from Per. The stopwatch is started and the run begins. Since I don't want to be completely bored during the others' pleasure trip in sun and wind, round and round, I am equipped with a digital camera for today's occasion. You can see what came out of it on the website's gallery.

A mood of African savannah awakened in the mind as I watched Janus retrieve it one after another in best gazelle style, overshadowed only by white legs that dazzled in the sun. Jens was the first to finish after 12.5 laps (5 km.) in a time of 24:02, followed by Gazelle Janus who finished the 8 km. in the time 33:09. Søren had the timing right when he finished the 8 km. in 39:39, sweating a lot (the 8 km must be run in less than 40 min.). However, we experienced the best timing from Per, who at first did not seem to be able to manage it even though he was given lap times and pace, but as he said "I have full control". He finished the 10 km. in 49:46 (must run in 50:00).

Well out of breath, we returned to Tjørnely to finish the test. My rest was over, and I had to tackle a gold circle in the time 10:25 together with Per who finished in 10:51. Janus and Søren finished with a silver circle in the times 7:13 and 9:56 respectively. It was time for pre-graduation training, which featured discussion and review of kata Syoden. A day in the realm of physics was over and Søren and the undersigned turned their noses at the Slagelsenian.
