Wake-up call
On Saturday 5 September we stood again – expectant and excited. Instructor courses 1 and 2 were held. I have previously participated in Instructor Course 1, and think it was instructive and good, and expected something similar to the same, apart from the fact that I also had to attend Instructor Course 2 afterwards.
The director team this day welcomed us, Martin Renshi-dai and Søren Renshi-dai, and by backing up a powerpoint presentation the message about the director's work was conveyed.
However, the setting was different, as my last instructor course consisted of a huge group of students and on Saturday we were a smaller group. It occurred to me that we would be on a different level this time, and I was not wrong. It was very intensive. Or as several others expressed afterwards, it became very intimate. We were really on task today.
Instructor course 1 consists of a number of role plays, where you take turns, if you are lucky, as an instructor team of 2. As the team was not as large in number of participants as last time, it will perhaps cause some to have a thought about, a manageable number of students, and thus an easy matter, but you are wrong.
Each of us was allowed to experience how wrong things can go, with the understanding that when evaluations were subsequently made, it was in a good atmosphere, where both development opportunities and good measures were highlighted by everyone involved.
We, I, really got to experience what it means to stay focused, to be present and empathetic, as well as to step into character when necessary, and to keep an overview so that training actually takes place.
It's surprising that we don't have students from the acting school, everyone played their given roles fantastically. Just seeing how everyone took on their role and gave their all was a great experience. This meant that those of us who got to try out the director's role this day were put to a tough test.
I didn't want to go into detail about the process, but I can only recommend to EVERYONE that you should just take part in this. We are used to it in our small family that those who have attended competence and curriculum courses come home, exhausted, but with a big smile on his face. And Saturday was no exception.
Do you know that experience where you find yourself wondering why everyone else doesn't just walk around and smile all the time, cracking a few jokes in between? It can be in traffic, in the supermarket or in other public spaces. I do, and yesterday it lasted a really long time…….
