It was bitterly cold October, although the sun shone from a blue sky, when almost one third of Jokokan's current members had found their way to Skælskør, where the hosts had set up a brilliant autumn camp. We might as well release the tension and say right away that this is the best Jokokan training camp that has yet been launched in terms of a fantastic atmosphere, commitment and sense of community. All 40 participants agreed on this.
For the third time in a row, the Eggeslevmaglehallen provided time and space for the Jokokan association's autumn camp. On Friday evening, 25 adult students started 3 hours of joint training in high spirits and intensity; followed by the mandatory camp orientation meeting where the participants could once again enjoy coffee, tea and soft drinks contributed by one of our sponsors.
At all Jokokan camps we want to promote integration and community between schools through communication, physical activities and responsibility. We therefore have what we call "Group Conversations". Here you sit with a cup of coffee or tea in hand, in groups of 5-8 people from different schools, and talk about a relevant Jokokan topic, which can then be discussed. It is important here that everyone is heard, as the basic Jokokan philosophy says that everyone has something to contribute. A spokesperson is chosen, and this spokesperson must later present the group's conclusions in a clear and "message-like" way to the other participants in the camp.
The theme of the autumn camp this time was about community, proper human relationships, and how we reach our goals together. The six groups had arrived at fantastic life-affirming messages – which were further reinforced the next day when 15 Jokokidz came to their one-day training camp. Messages such as „Treat others as you would like to be treated‟, „Everyone has something to contribute‟, „Recognize, respect and accept that there are those who know more than you and those who know less than you – and be grateful for that‟, „Look at others instead of looking‟, „We learn all our lives – be open and tolerant‟, „Find your inner as well as outer balance – otherwise you will fall over too often‟, and many many more. Thank you! – these were very, very beautiful Jokokan messages.
All Jokokan training camps end with a show between the “kitchen teams”. An ultra-short show where the groups show their creativity, Yakami and acting techniques and not least humor!. We can now reveal that the judges suspected deliberate cheating when the same “kitchen team” won both the show team competition and the subsequent football tournament!. Many whispered in the corners about paid judges and match fixing, which was also discussed between the judges. However, they came to the conclusion that since no one had received polished apples, cakes or other sweets, the twice winning kitchen team must be of a particularly talented caliber. A caliber they have hidden well from the rest of us. But our message is: We will not be fooled again! The same can be said about a nine-year-old frail boy who won the push-up competition with 57 push-ups.
At the closing sandwich party, Jokokan Denmark's country manager also revealed a hidden talent – he was a dressmaker in Jokokan's new clothing, which goes by the name "Jokokan Brands". You can read about Jokokan Brands under news on the website.
It is probably also appropriate to say that many found their hidden talents and sides during this camp. It was a real pleasure and bodes well for the future of Jokokan. Thank you and continue to have fun with your "inner and outer" talent development - "You can do much more than you tell yourself".
