On 16 November 2001, a police report was handed in at Slagelse Police Station by Jokokan's lawyer. The police report contained an extremely well-documented process and evidence and was against our former federal treasurer, who has embezzled DKK 55,000 over a period of 2½ years. Shortly before the police report, the former federal treasurer had contacted Jokokan's lawyer, where he offered to pay a settlement of approx. 75% of the remaining embezzlement amount he failed to pay. This was rejected by the federal committee, which is running the case. Embezzlement is and will be embezzlement; and Jokokan will only enter into a settlement if the full amount was paid.
After filing the police report, our lawyer was contacted again. Now the former federal treasurer offered to pay the full amount in return for receiving a receipt from Jokokan. A receipt acquitting him of embezzlement against Jokokan for DKK 55,000. during his time in the position of trust as federal treasurer. The federal committee, which handles the case on behalf of the members, had to repeat again that Jokokan can only consider the case closed if the remaining full amount is repaid - plus now the costs of the case and unconditionally according to Jokokan's well-documented settlement offer from the month of October.
This was accepted and settled by the former federal treasurer in cash to our lawyer on November 19, 2001. The police report was then withdrawn and the case is now considered closed from Jokokan's side.
We can assure Jokokan members that the likelihood of a similar embezzlement or theft occurring again is very low, as new strict control and audit procedures have been put in place in the wake of this most regrettable case.
