It is hereby confirmed that the below-mentioned members of the Shindenkan, Summer Convention, Saturday, June 14, 2025 have been appointed and graduated by Yamana-Itotani Sensei after passing all 9-15 of 9-15 stop tests in the graduation process lasting 5 weeks for TG3-TG6, Yakami Shinsei-ryu Taijutsu & Karate-do (YSTK)
Yakami Shinsei-ryu Taijutsu & Karate-do 1.dan Sr. graduations
Pia Hornung, 57 years old
- 1.dan Sr., Yakami Shinsei-ryu Taijutsu & Karate-do (the multi-track martial arts system)
- 2nd dan, Bujutsu Kodosokukai Jikitai Karate-do (Original gl. Original Okinawa Karate-do)
- 3rd dan, Bujutsu Kodosokukai sports karate-do (Gensei-Ryu legacy from 1965 and comparable degree to Shotokan, Goju-ryu, Taekwondo, Judo, Jujutsu, Kendo, etc.)

Data, trained since 2010, 57 years old, Cand. Scient., one adult son. Fitness requirement 42, which Pia met already from the first support test 1 of 9, 27/10-24 with 44. Completed Ayame Kuroi Stoptest with 50 and thus +20 % above minimum requirements and + 75 % above average fitness from the Scandinavian population of gender and corresponding age. Pia could also take KataFIT 15S, which is typically only for the elite and a maximum of 10 % can be completed technically correctly. KataFIT 15S takes 46 minutes to complete - uninterrupted physical functional whole body and mind training.
Yakami Shinsei-ryu Taijutsu & Karate-do 1.kyu graduations
Mads Villadsen, 20 years old
- 1.kyu, Yakami Shinsei-ryu Taijutsu & Karate-do (the multi-track martial arts system)
- 1.kyu, Bujutsu Kodosokukai Jikitai Karate-do (Original gl. Original Okinawa Karate-do)
- 1st dan, Bujutsu Kodosokukai sports karate-do (Gensei-ryu legacy from 1965 and comparable degree to Shotokan, Goju-ryu, Taekwondo, Judo, Jujutsu, Kendo, etc.)
Data, trained since 2011, 20 years old, student, part-time job DGI gymnastics instructor children. Mads has trained in Shindenkan since he was 6 years old. Mad was both small and timid and at the same time climbed the walls like the other opposite. Mads is dyslexic, but in Shindenkan he built his self-esteem, self-confidence through a solid support structure and set of values. Mads not only proved his worth in intention, but also in reality. Mads became the fourth to complete Ayame Gold – the 0.01 % during a graduation process. Mads' fitness level ended up at 75 world elite. Mads completed 7 min Shindenkan "Cage fight" Shiai with constant fresh opponents and 2 min as a support fighter. Mads briefly got a full KO after a circle kick to the head, but characteristic of Mads, he acknowledged the opponent with praise! Mads gave both technical KOs and floor fight KOs to his changing opponents. Most importantly, Mads passed all his other final exams according to the common curriculum handbook quite convincingly and with a high technical standard for the degree. There was no doubt that Mads just WANTED this! He wanted to prove himself and do this for himself, which would then benefit others. It is clear that those who prove themselves know themselves better in reality.
Yakami Shinsei-ryu Taijutsu & Karate-do 3.kyu graduations
Magnus Breinstrup, 19 years old
- 3.kyu, Yakami Shinsei-ryu Taijutsu & Karate-do (the multi-track martial arts system)
- 2.kyu, Bujutsu Kodosokukai Jikitai Karate-do (Original gl. Original Okinawa Karate-do)
- 2.kyu, Bujutsu Kodosokukai sports karate-do (Gensei-ryu legacy from 1965 and comparable degree to Shotokan, Goju-ryu, Taekwondo, Judo, Jujutsu, Kendo, etc.)
Data, trained since 2015, student and soon Cand. Tech. Stud. Magnus is his own person and with a smile he takes it as it comes. He also did that when he was severely overweight (+15 kg, BMI > 30), totally out of shape (fitness score 34) and constant setbacks from his shadow of the best version of himself, decided in reality that NOW he wanted to be the best version of himself. It is Magnus' strength that when he decides on something, he does it! 100 % all the way around and uncompromising. Magnus tried out his Shindenkan Shiai for the first time and passed – “Cage Fight” which does not distinguish between weight classes, is full contact including floor fighting and does not have very many rules – it is as close as possible to a real “Street fight”. It clarifies, tests and puts YOU as a person at the center for better or worse. Magnus had a support fight role with a total of 5 x 1 minute fights. He gave and received technical KOs, standing and lying down. Magnus passed all other stop tests very well, and this also applied to the Ayame Kuroi stop tests for condition number 62.
The official dump percentage since the process started in August 2024; Up to black; 50 % and up to brown; 67 %.
OBC KM1-4 annual competence graduations - maintenance/development of competences

Also, a big congratulations to the 84 other Shindenkaners who passed their final 2024-2025 graduations.
Shindenkan Honbu dojo wishes everyone a warm congratulations on your graduations/appointments, which you have rightly earned through continuous high effort in the 2024-25 season.

The historical extraordinary appointments – which have not happened in 13, 20 or 25 years, respectively.
The 1000-year-old multi-track martial arts system's curriculum manual is already about 10+ times larger than most single-track modern martial arts systems. That's why it also takes 9-12 years to become a multi-track Yakami Shinsei-ryu Taijutsu & Karate-do (YSTK) black belt of 1st dan. We focus more on being than appearing, and therefore one 1st dan black belt in YSTK is usually equivalent to a 3-4th dan single-track modern martial arts. It's not us who say this, but the others. We don't really show this visibly, except discreetly with our beautiful OBC KM 1-4 chest badges, which is therefore an annual certification, as the various single-track competencies must be maintained and competence continuously increased.
There has been ample opportunity for this. Especially since 2022, when Honbu's general assembly, after thorough consultation, decided to "see how far the wings could carry, and test the Black and Brown Belt Team's "We do as we say and say as we do". We did this knowing that the higher the demands, the fewer members and the more they drop out, as the sacrifice cost in relation to other priorities is revealed and this also applies to the internal clarification, attitude, discipline and stamina of our members. But after the clean-up process in 2015-2022, which was extended by 2 years due to the Corona shutdowns, there was again a lot of focus on the purpose clause, statutes and general assembly resolutions.
Things were going really, really well until the 2023-2024 season, when the prospective graduates passed with towering grades, joy, motivation and a great attitude and self-confidence. But in the 2024-2025 season, we hit the ceiling for most of them. The black belt fail percentage was at the normal 50 %, but the brown belt fail percentage had increased to 67 %. It hasn't been that high since the years 2013 and 2017, which were two historically significant years in Shindenkan's history and development.
This meant that one group took the chance to the fullest and spread their wings, and achieved it! While a larger group hit the ceiling, bent their attitude in relation to the sacrifice cost and got themselves in trouble, and therefore failed. It's not because they are not good and cool enough - because they are, if they want to. But you can't pass a higher graduation with the attitude and competence level of the past, when the train has already moved on on the holistic and multi-track competence development ladder that they themselves have helped to decide.
This means that the limit for the competence increase per season has been reached. But for the three who gladly accepted the chance, yes, they not only fulfilled their graduations, but also the opportunity to "skip a degree" within six months. This has not happened in the last 13, 20 or 25 years, respectively, and then it was only for one person - never for three people at once, we have to go all the way back to the time before 2000 - that's over 25 years ago.
It also fits very well that Yamana-Itotani Sensei has taught curriculum content from the common curriculum manual in the period 2022-2025, which he has not actually taught after the year 2000 and after the year 2009 in the Black and Brown Belt team. The years 2000 and 2009 are two very significant years in the history of Shindenkan. So it IS historic, but there has also been a high, steep cost. But in Shindenkan we still pay tribute to our heroes and heroines, and recognize their sacrifices, efforts and what they have historically achieved!
Yakami Shinsei-ryu Taijutsu & Karate-do 2nd dan – extraordinary setting.
Pia Hornung, 58 years, summer 2026
Pia completed her 1st dan Sr. graduation to 12 figures on all parameters and was therefore nominated for 2nd dan, SHODEN graduation, summer competition 2026, which is one year earlier according to the common curriculum handbook. Pia graduated 1st kyu, 2023 and 1st dan, 2024, and has therefore trained purposefully for this purpose. This typically means 3+ times a week YSTK training and 2 times a week cardio & KataFIT training outdoors and indoors in a fitness center or at home. Pia has been rocking through the last two years, has listened, absorbed and then she has implemented it at her own pace. A pace that has been good enough to “skip a year”. At the same time as a time-consuming job at Novo Nordisk, she has chosen to contribute to voluntary and unpaid work. Shindenkan has greatly benefited from her contribution and effort with the new website with the large amounts of relevant and unique information. Pia has also been democratically elected to several boards. Incidentally, it has not happened in 10 years that a graduated 1st dan Sr is promoted to 2nd dan the following year.
Yakami Shinsei-ryu Taijutsu & Karate-do 1st dan HO – extraordinary setting.
Mads Villadsen, 20 Years, X-Mas 2025
Mads did not pass the second option for his 1st kyu graduation process in the 2023-2024 season. Mads failed. Statistics typically say that 90+ % give up with all sorts of excuses or lick their wounds for a few years. But not Mads! He continuously sought advice, guidance and looked deep into himself and came back as an even better version of himself! Mads chose “one chance” Ayame GOLD as opposed to “two chance” Ayame Kuroi, which 99.9 % of graduates in spe choose from the 3rd kyu graduation process. Since 1965 – 60 years, there are only 3 out of 50-60,000 who have passed this absolute top world elite requirement. All three are girls, in the group JokoKidz-Teen, Adult, Old boys-Girls over 45 years, Wonder boys-girls over 55 years. There are now 4 (3 girls and now 1 boy) who have completed a Gold Ayame during a pressured graduation process. That is just 0.01 % since 1965 – 60 years. It has been just over 20 years since the last time that one 1 degree + HO was set in the TG4 group (2nd kyu-1st dan Sr). Mads has to a great extent accepted the increasing competence requirements and the learning speed in these, which since 2022 has been one belt degree every 1-2 years increase, in addition to the average. Mads passed all the stop tests excellently and it is clear that when Mads also passed the 0.01 % Ayame GOLD stop tests, this is something very special and is therefore recognized. Mads, who is dyslexic, also passed his session at the upper end and the high school diploma, which he completed with one 12th grade. Mads will serve his military service in the Royal Life Guards from December 1, 2025 and will work in the meantime while he considers his future, which could include going to and staying at DTU.
Yakami Shinsei-ryu Taijutsu & Karate-do 2. Kyu HO – extraordinary attitude.
Magnus Breinstrup, 19 years old, X-Mas 2025
Magnus is a cautious young man who has so far completed his graduations every other year. Magnus enjoys great active support and backing from his family, which was also the case during Magnus' graduation this summer. However, Magnus has always worked and paid for everything himself in Shindenkan, which has been a really good learning experience for him in terms of his own earned money being invested in skills. Magnus therefore plans everything in the smallest detail, seeks advice, guidance and seeks the best version of himself. He does everything that can support this process! Magnus has experienced his "breakthrough season" this season, went all in - all the way to take his chance and therefore took his quantum leap. The first support test showed Magnus 15 kg heavier and a fitness score of 35. It was far from the fitness requirement of at least 57. But in Magnus's way, he quietly lost 15 kg, built muscle mass and ended up with a solid fitness score of 62 - 9 % above the minimum requirement.
2000, 2009, 2017-2022 major strategy changes – purpose clause, competence organization, breadth.
Everyone knows that the higher the requirements, the fewer people get through and the fewer members.
Shindenkan consists of two superseding and overlapping competency organizations; Shindenkan martial arts and Kaidenkan Martial Arts. The transition between the two is marked by the 600+ year old traditional multi-track competency degree; Menkyo – Master of all the Martial arts (6th dan YSTK & 8th dan BKK-GK). In modern martial arts organizations this is a fairly high degree. In Shindenkan this is marked on the belt with 5 gold stripes (Densho grade Menkyo), 6 silver stripes (6th dan YSTK) and 8 white stripes (8th dan BKK-GK)
It is Kaidenkan as a multi-track martial arts competency organization that ensures the multi-track competency level in Shindenkan Martial Arts; Yakami Shinsei-ryu Taijutsu & Karate-do. These are the original and unchanged competency requirements for more than 1000 years. The requirements are the same in 2025 as they were in the year 1867, 1600, 1473, 1281 or the year 999 – there is no difference. But there is the difference that many have a certain sense of the degree requirements in modern martial arts, but the opposite is the case within the ancient martial arts. In Shindenkan, Kaidenkan degrees are marked on the belt with 5-10 gold stripes (ancient Densho degree), 6-10 silver stripes (YSTK) and 8-10 white stripes (BKK-GK).
The challenge has been that since 1994, there have been no more members in Kaidenkan – than one; Honbu Chief Instructor. This means that the Shindenkan organization's purpose clause and statutes have only just been fulfilled for the last 32+ years. So the calculation in 2025 is that 1 in 50-60,000 in the period 1965-2025 Denmark – Scandinavia has become densho degree Menkyo or higher. The unofficial statistics from Japan and China say that 1 in 1,000,000 becomes Menkyo Kaiden, which is two densho degrees above Menkyo, and which means "Initiated Grandmaster of all the Martial arts".
All measures have been tried throughout the years, but without results.
What have we done to change this in democratic Shindenkan, voluntary and unpaid association work?
Before the year 2000, our 3rd kyu brown belts easily beat two newly crowned double World Championship Japan Karate bronze medalists. We were 45 members in Shindenkan.
The 2000 paradigm shift in strategy with a good opening to the wider community resulted in a membership increase of almost 1400 % – from 45 to 665 in 2009.
The 2009 paradigm shift in strategy with a 67/33 focus between the broad and the elite, led to a membership increase of almost 3000 % – from 45 to 1400 in 2015.
The 2020 Strategic Plan projected that Shindenkan would reach around 4,000 members in 2020 – that is, almost 8,800 % increase in membership in 20 years.
But in 2015, the revelations were in a queue. Illusions and reality. It is absolutely not good for a multi-track competence organization in the short or long term.
It was good in the short term for the primarily democratic politicians, but definitely not good in the long term for Shindenkan's purpose clause, statutes, and as a multi-track competence organization.
The democracy in Shindenkan decided that the local member associations, with national support, would bring order to their own penitentiary in the period 2015-2017. This did not succeed, quite the opposite.
From 2017-2022 we therefore had a clean-up process when 60 % of all members in Shindenkan did not comply with Shindenkan's statutes, guidelines or curriculum manual. AND the democratically elected leaders had decided to deliberately lie about it - as long as they got something in return, which was self-interest as "Sokér" (self-determining for competence level determination outside the curriculum manual applicable to everyone else).
2009-2017 the focus was primarily on the breadth, which also includes the so-called merchant motionists and secondarily on the purpose clause and the multi-track competencies. The workload was HUGE for the supporting forces and especially the two main forces since 1988. There were fires to be put out constantly, political fights to be stopped constantly – and there was NO future in that for Shindenkan. At the same time, KS had to mainly finance GF's adopting investments and so did Shihan-kai, although to a much lesser extent.
KS put its foot down, the rowan berries turned sour, but democracy prevailed in Shindenkan, when it was recognized that Shindenkan was nothing outside Denmark, without KS in Kaidenkan. The turnaround process lasted an extra 2 years due to Covid19. In 2022, the new Strat26 was adopted – there should now be a balance between the merchant motionists and the competencies.
This was democratically adopted, knowing that higher demands would lead to fewer members. This was reinforced by two years of Corona shutdowns, where in the 2019/20 and 2020/2021 seasons, 21 % of the members left each year, so that in the Corona years we lost approx. 42 % of the members, despite all the active measures we had taken online, outdoor training in all kinds of weather, walks with face masks, etc.
But we were not alone in these membership losses. It also happened to most of the associations in DGI and DIF outside the main sports. And with the retention of the purpose clause and statutes, we lost a further approx. 21 % in the years 2017-2022.
It was very challenging to run a Turn-around process, at the same time as a global and national ON-OFF Corona shutdown in the 2019/2020 and 2020/2021 seasons. But we fought a brave fight, thought outside the box and actually ended up being a First Mover and a source of inspiration with active contact and cooperation in Denmark with municipalities, DGI, DIF and other associations. We can and are proud of that. Strat26 now fulfilled Shindenkan's purpose clause, statutes and curriculum manual.
From 2009-2015-2017/2022, we therefore raised the competency level by one belt grade every 3-4 years.
We learned the hard way that control functions must be in place, and unfortunately, are far better than trust in the voluntary and unpaid Scandinavian “Grundtvigian – We learn not for school, but for life.” democratic association work.
We learned the hard way the negative side of democracy's own exploitation during a thunderous international success – we quickly became adults. But the 2015 revelations, compared to the “2009 competency standard”, meant that for about 40 % the competency level was raised by 3-5 belt grades and for about 60 % who had cheated, only 0-1 belt grade. An “A & B team” and a large “F team” were effectively created. That was the opposite of the intention and purpose.
It should be noted that what was changed were the requirements for the level of competence and not the training time per week which was the same after the year 2000 and the changed requirements were from 5th kyu YSTK. This means that the first 3-5 years of the members' training in Shindenkan from 10th kyu to 5th kyu, were still reasonably flexible and forgiving. But to a gradually lesser extent from 5th kyu – it was no longer the “lowest common denominator setting”, but in the upper half.
The Black and Brown Belt team was now seriously challenged in terms of their attitude, willingness and deep interest in learning a 1000-year-old cultural tradition. Otherwise, they simply would not be able to keep up with the others on the team if they did not change their attitude to being the best version of themselves and learning. The POMW – Project Old Modern Warrior toolbox is a very revealing tool to test this attitude – and it can be quite brutal and revealing.
Before the year 2000, the training time was a minimum of 15-25 hours per week for the Black and Brown Belt team. The level of competence and toughness was very high, but there is probably also a reason why we never reached more than 45 members.
Most who have achieved the 4th kyu YSTK degree (typically 4-7 years of training) have exercised their right to take all or most of the multi-track competency courses leading to black belt with due diligence.
Therefore, training time after the year 2000 has been almost constant, also partly from 4th kyu YSTK and up.
Twice locally with 1½-2½ hours per lesson per week and approx. 4 hours monthly nationally. In addition typically 1-2 times weekly cardio and KataFIT/SKK training and maintenance of typically 1-1½ hours duration at self-selected times. This is the typical training effort for half of the season (Aug-Dec)
In the second half, there will typically be one more training lesson every week or two.
So that's half the year a typical minimum training effort of about 5+ hours per week and the other half up to 5-12 hours per week. If you're in the graduation process it's typically 8-15+ hours and if you're not, it's still around the 5-7 hours per week. There's truly room for everyone, the elite as well as the exerciser.
It is clear that before In the year 2000, the training effort with 15-25 hours per week, it was not abnormal to be able to "skip grades" before 1st dan YSTK, then this is considerably more difficult with 33%-67 % of the training hour effort after the year 2000. This can only be done by each member of the Black and Brown Belt team changing their attitude to learning - Markedly.
Failure rates are directly derived from the fact that prospective graduates have not met one or more of the stopping tests according to the curriculum handbook, which are common to all. These are minimum levels.
Most who fail fail due to insufficient attitude, Ayame physical stop tests and Ryugi (ready knowledge) Stop test. All stop tests that the graduate in spe himself manages 100 %, has 100 % control over, and which are objective for everyone during the graduation process. These are data and numbers.
With Strat26 during GF22, it was democratically decided to catch up and set a goal of raising the competency level by one belt grade every 2 years. It also went super well!
But not in 2022, after two years of shutdown and ad hoc training online and outdoors; The failure rates were of course very high with 90 % for black belts and 80 % for brown belts. But already in 2023 the failure rates had fallen to the lowest level since 2009; 20 % for black belts and 0 % for brown belts. In 2024 this increased to the normal failure rate levels in the years 2000-2014 for black belts; 50-60 % and Brown belts 45-50 %. But the failure rates were within the normal adopting limits.
Multi-track graduations in Shindenkan are not easy for brown and black. That is why Shindenkan also has a soft sorting process during the season. All brown and black belts can actively grossly register for a graduation course during the season. There is no guarantee, but it ensures the right attention and alignment of expectations from the beginning.
The graduation process with all final exams typically opens 4-5 weeks before the final graduation day.
It is typically mid-May. But before that, there have been three pre-placement graduations; typically in December, February and April. It is the long, tough pull, placement and multi-track competency learning over a 10-month period that is crucial.
Pre-settings – abort or continue – have the advantage of being relatively gentle in weeding out people or encouraging people to continue. But still – people fail or pass the three pre-settings, but it still happens behind closed doors. The main graduation does not – it happens in front of 200-500+ people. It is merciless and definitely not gentle.
It is NEVER nice to dump people, but it is ALSO Yamana-Itotani Sensei's (KS) task and responsibility, as Honbu's chief instructor, and it is about the entire integrity of Shindenkan with the same rules for everyone and meeting minimum requirements that increase with the degree - it is, after all, 1000 years of cultural tradition.
It's not so bad to give the benefit of the doubt from 10th kyu-5th kyu – it's a building phase. But from 4th-2nd kyu everyone MUST meet the same rules and requirements that apply to everyone. And THE ATTITUDE TO WANT to 1st kyu-1st dan Sr. MUST be in place – EVERYONE knows that.
But not everyone believes that it should necessarily apply to them and their special interests – when THEY fail.
The ceiling is hit – the example of the 2024-2025 season
BEFORE the 2024-2025 season, KS, as he always does every year, asked the entire SB-BB team whether the competency training was now too high, based on the failure rates in 2024. Everyone replied that it was difficult, but appropriate and that they just needed to step up after Strat26!
The graduation result in 2025 is historic, but the failure result has hit the ceiling, with up to black; 50 % and up to brown; 67 %. It is very clear that the ceiling has been reached and “the sheep are being separated from the goats”.
Failing always hits hard and people react very differently. Shindenkan's values are that we BIGLY pay tribute to our heroes and heroines for their achievements – and those who didn't make it are only mentioned in the failure percentage, because that's proper and fair.
In Shindenkan you actively register for the Gross list BEFORE the start of the season whether you want to be a graduate in Spe or not. Registration is not binding and no guarantee that you will be graduated – you MUST meet the same rules as everyone else. Everyone knows that, but when the rowanberries are s…
- The A-team; This season this is MARKANT with the competence work since 2022 – for the first time in 25 years! THERE WERE 4 who could get 1 + HO or 1 + 1.
- The B-team; Those who failed this graduation, but all could have passed IF they changed their attitude and looked at themselves during the season. It is very difficult to go up to brown and black belt graduation and expect to pass when you do not meet or intend to meet all the minimum requirements, which of course apply to everyone and thus the same for everyone in Shindenkan.
- BA team; It is not necessary to pursue the graduation track all the time. It is perfectly fine in Shindenkan to take your own pace and develop when it suits you or just enjoy the training and the community. But you must always behave properly and honestly and not sabotage others who want to graduate.
The Philosopher's Corner – We meet where people are and take them on a journey – room for everyone, the elite as well as the exerciser, through all phases of life.
Parents have a huge influence on their children's values, stamina, behavior, self-confidence, self-esteem, social skills, etc. We all know this and it is well described and documented everywhere. But not everyone thinks about the fact that this has an impact on the present, the past, and the future.
No one necessarily sees it from the outside. But the traces are left – in the way people love, set boundaries, fight and make room for their own needs. For those who grow up without a stable parental figure, it often leaves more than just silent memories. Independence becomes almost unshakable. Early on, they learn that nothing comes without their own effort – and needs are put aside to manage everything on their own. At the same time, a natural skepticism towards authority grows. If the first important adult failed, why shouldn't others do the same?
Criticism can feel like a punch in the gut, even when it is constructive. When love and recognition are lacking in childhood, even small corrections become wounds. Many therefore seek constant affirmation – in love, friendships or at work – as a band-aid for an invisible flaw. A failed graduation can cause a friend to become an enemy.
Others develop strong protective instincts. Someone who has lacked security will often do everything they can to create it for others, especially their children. And precisely because a parent was missing, they struggle to be the present, understanding, and steady adult who was never there themselves.
For some, parenting becomes a mystery. What does it mean to be a parent if the role model is missing? The answer is often either overcompensation or a total rejection of gender roles.
Relationships feel insecure because closeness was once associated with disappointment. That's why people keep their distance – for safety. But even in that absence, something powerful grows. A resilience.
An ability to adapt, carry on and dream of something better. Many of those who grew up without, build strong, loving families themselves – not because of, but in spite of. This is what Shindenkan also helps and supports, and we are really good at it. The last 38 years of the 60-year history in Denmark, Scandinavia and Europe show this. Our concepts have been shared and copied nationally and globally.
In Shindenkan we have members from 5-70+ years. This means that parental influence, different childhood upbringings with both security, love, curling to insecurity, lack of empathy, emotional coldness, lack of support and love. They are not only children and young people, but also adults such as middle-aged, Danes, Expats, who integrated former refugees, menopausal and andropause, pensioners and people from all over the world, because the world has become smaller and more integrated.
Trauma follows members throughout their lives, and we experience this up close and personal, for better or worse, in association life, and this also applies to members of Shindenkan. We have 38 years of experience in this and can confirm this. Therefore, Shindenkan is not only a voluntary and unpaid association, but also a sanctuary that provides security, a set of values, a place for development, support, empathy and recognition. The training room – Dojo means in Japanese “The place of enlightenment – the best version of yourself at any time and place”.
EVERYONE is welcome in Shindenkan and EVERYONE carries around their life story. What everyone has in common, however, is that EVERYONE is subject to the same purpose clause, democratic statutes and decisions, and the same common curriculum manual. This is typically no problem for about 95+% – until one day it is. This is typically when their life story breaks through, triggered by something that has gone against them. Here, most people often choose the easy way out and blame others and take responsibility.
Who is it easiest for when you blame others for your failures, despite numerous warnings and advice about this, which have been ignored? Would it be wise and healthy to look at yourself? When this happens in voluntary and unpaid association life, this is very tiring and demotivating for the voluntary and unpaid enthusiasts. This social change has been significant, especially in the last 10-15+ years. It is also well described in research and social debate here today.
Honbu Dojo Lejre's competency and graduation course season no.60; 2024-2025
It was absolutely amazing to experience and witness. For Yakami Shinsei-ryu Taijutsu & Karate-do (YSTK) brown and black belt graduations are not like most of our other single-track martial arts competitors, or multi-track franchise systems with a fluid curriculum. It is – yes, a multi-track transparent and open process that all participants know about and it is the same for everyone.
The reason for this is the 1,000-year-old cultural heritage's requirement for multi-track system competences through stop test courses over typically 4-6 weeks. Therefore, there is also a preparation time from setting of 6-12 months. The single-track competencies (I-IV) are shown discreetly through a stop test; OBC Competence mark certifications, which take place every year, so the level of competence is kept at a nationally standardized minimum. The OBC Competence marks constantly reflect the present. This means that members cannot rest on their laurels and live on the merits of the past, but invest their time in maintaining and developing their multi-track competences at a minimum of one – minimum level or higher at national level.
Yakami Shinsei-ryu Taijutsu & Karate-do (YSTK) is a multi-track Japanese cultural-historical martial arts system with more than 1,000 years of history. Therefore, there are special requirements for a graduation course to brown and black belt competency levels.
It is a completely voluntary course, where special emphasis is of course placed on the YSTK competencies, but also on the human affirmation and development aspects with the building of lasting benefits for self-esteem and self-confidence, which can be used outside Shindenkan; School, high school, university, work, social life, family, you as a person, etc.
The first basic stop tests are structured according to two purposes;
- A stop test course over which the graduate in question has 100 % control, as long as he meets the same minimum requirements applicable to everyone. This part requires self-discipline, planning, prioritization and stamina typically over 6-12 months, depending on level of ambition and option/opt-out.
- A Stop test course, which 100 % follows the graduation handbook applicable to everyone, and where the number of requirements for stop tests depends on the degree the graduate in question must reach.
The first part where the graduate in question has 100 % control is; AYAME
The AYAME mark – physical tests which ensure that the graduate in terms of health can complete a graduation course, physically, psychologically, mentally in a risk-minimized and safe way for himself and others. Basically, this is physical training at different levels. But since this is a cultural historical martial arts system, this part is of course 100 % optimized for the task in Shindenkan. In addition to fitness tests, which are typically running, cycling, rowing, swimming, there are health-promoting elements completely unique to Shindenkan; KataFIT and SKK – Stretch Ki Kata. Unique elements that train and fine-tune both the exterior and interior of a person with more than 1,000 years of Eastern and Western knowledge skills behind them.
The two optional options, which the graduate must consider before the stop tests and cannot change afterwards, are;
- The normal chosen physical requirement pack is Ayame Kuroi – Black. It consists of two stop tests which are usually taken within a week. The first has the main focus on fitness and self-control. The second has the main focus on optimal energy balance between correct use of breath and body, mind, spirit, through functional full-body training at different levels.
- Precisely the local as national training in; KataFIT and SKK – Stretch Ki Kata, which are gradually raised in skill level and understanding every year, are completely unique Shindenkan tools. But at the same time, copying is also made more difficult, as the multi-track Yakami Shinsei system has always been and is a very favorite object for this.
- The gradual release of competence knowledge also means that 90+ % of the members do not need to do strength and conditioning training in a gym at all. This saves both time and money, as the gym quota can be saved.
- The requirement for Ayame Kuroi is a health score from high to very high, depending on degree requirements and data from the Scandinavian age group. The same applies to KataFIT level and type. SKK is the same.
- Can everyone pass Ayame Kuroi? Yes, they can, if they want to and make the effort to do so. This has been proven over 55+ years of history, and it includes teenagers, girls, boys, men, women, Old boys & Girls, Wonder boys & girls. You will receive guidance, help and optimization advice along the way through a common national support structure. But that also means that you cannot bluff your way through. Since everyone can see and experience each other during the entire support and unity process of typically 10 months; Who makes an effort? And who just talks? This means that reality is as it is; If you make an effort, everyone can see and acknowledge it. If you do the opposite, and despite help and support, continue with this, everyone can see it too. It is a fairly objective stop test.
- Everyone has to pass the same thing and has to go through the same thing to their degree. The rules are the same for everyone. Those who often don't pass, don't want to or haven't understood these rules and facts. Most often it's the muscular or intellectually well-articulated boys, men, girls and women, who often act with self-confidence, who look cool or have been very cool, they say, who most often have to report. It's a great shame, because they could easily pass if they just sat down and listened. Those who do this, pass, and fortunately the vast majority do!
- After a graduate under formalized national graduation courses has passed the full AYAME at least twice, the graduate is given a role model AYAME KUROI or AYAME GOLD, which is sewn on Gien. This typically happens when graduating to 1st kyu, YSTK. In this way, other graduates in spe can always distinguish between advisors who have an opinion and those who have actually made a fact-based difference and completed AYAME – twice. Even the absolute coolest Superman or wonderwoman will fail the AYAME stop tests without optimal technical preparation. They can take the fitness part, but not the KataFIT part. Here, 99.9% will “die of lack of oxygen” due to the energy, physiology and respiratory balance that all people are subject to. Advice is most often free and non-binding, but the consequences of incorrect or “I was cool once” advice is that the graduate in spe fails after a preparation time that often extends over 6-12 months. AYAME GOLD is world elite fitness, KataFIT and SKK. Fitness for women is typically in the 60s-70s+ and 70s+ for men.
- AYAME GOLD – GOLD IRIS, is the absolute highest physical, psychological and mental requirements according to the Scandinavian population for the world elite. This applies especially to fitness. You must select and complete Ayame GOLD in advance. It's all or nothing. Either you pass or you don't. One attempt. For AYAME Kuroi you have two attempts.
- 9 out of 10 who proclaim the choice of AYAME GOLD this season are boys and men. But the fact is out of approx. 50-60,000 since 1965, there are only three who have passed AYAME GOLD during a YSTK graduation process. All three are slender girls in the group; JokoTeens, Adult, Old Girl or Wonder Girl. They made a plan, followed it, helped each other and with graduates in spe and completed without major problems and in high spirits. Many boys and men have tried. But never completed or dropped out shortly before the graduation process started. We still encourage boys and men to also pass an AYAME GOLD. Shindenkan celebrates diversity and balance - both ways, all ways. The girls are today Lawyer M&A, medical candidate students, Partners and still REALLY cool 😊. This situation changed in 2025, when the first man passed Ayame GOLD.
The next stop tests are more traditional according to the curriculum handbook last updated in 2009/2019. Here comes the full overview of all the stop tests.
Multi-track brown belt grades (3rd kyu – 1st kyu) and multi-track black belts;
- AYAME Stop test 1 – Physical dynamic fitness test – Fitness test high to very high for world elite + short physical dynamic strength test KataFIT 5S
- AYAME Stop test 2 – Physical dynamic strength test – KataFIT 8S, 10S, 12S or 15S – fitness, whole-body strength, and self-discipline over 6-12 months.
- Stop test 3 – Ryugi test in writing – theoretical test 20 questions – the degree obliges to impart knowledge
- Stop test 4 – Ryugi test oral preparedness – theoretical test – the degree obliges knowledge dissemination, also under stress
- Stop test 5 – Ryuha test – Syllabus practical & technical from 10.kyu and up to the degree.
- Stop test 6 – OBC KM annual certification – multi-track of the single-track competencies for the degree – discrete.
- Stop test 7 – Shiai from 2.kyu onwards – free fight without weight, age, sex, classes, full contact, floor fight and minimum rules. Reflects and prepares – if reality is unfortunate.
- Stoptest 8 – Stamina & Fightingspirit test. Test of willpower, attitude and stamina after 5 weeks of graduation.
- Stop test 9 – Role models worthy of the degree during at least the last three joint events. Humility to the task and holistic results orientation
Additionally for multi-track Yakami Shinsei-ryu black belts (1st Dan – 3rd Dan – DENSHO) and higher;
- Stoptest 10 – Bunbu Ichi – Thesis – Independent personal writing process tasks, which are deeply confidential to the chagrin of many 😊
- Stop test 11 – Summer meeting – basic teaching test completed satisfactorily. Role model & instructor when you are totally exhausted after 5 weeks of graduation. Besides own nose tip.
- Stop test 12 – RRCamp – training process – We meet you where you are and take you on a journey.
- Stop test 13 – The rising extraordinary to highly unusual as a role model; Katsu-Jin (50/55/60+ years), Kohaku-jin (Documented Physiological Minority Percentage of min. 8/12/15/18/30 %), AYAME GOLD and others.
- Stoptest 14 – JODEN, JODEN HIDEN, OKUDEN, OKUDEN HIDEN, MENKYO – 4-6th dan YSTK & 5-7th dan BKK-GK – the multi-tracked whole person – Unleash your full potential, step by step – Be yourself. Ryugi
Multi-track degrees versus single-track – OBC Competency Marks.
Most people want to have the brown or black belt. But if that is your primary underlying motivation, Shindenkan may not be the optimal one for you. Shindenkan is multi-track and focuses on the whole person, – not just a single subject. But having said that, we also recognize the world we live in and therefore we also understand the importance and balance of degrees. We reflect this both in the normal national graduations, where from 4th kyu it happens in three systems, but obviously most through the annual beautiful OBC multi-track competency badges. From Brown to black with respectively 1, 2 and 3 stripes under a black belt. The OBC KM1-4 chest badges also discreetly reflect the student's true maintained single-track competencies; brown belt, black belt; 1st dan, 2nd dan and 3rd dan. Knowing that people first and foremost look at the belt color – from a distance, and at the role model and the competency badges – up close. Yakami Shinsei-ryu Taijutsu & Karate-do is a 10.kyu to 10.dan multi-track system.
Honori's experience project 2013-2019 has been completed
We have no Honoris – work honor degrees in Shindenkan after 1992. In a pilot scheme from 2013-2019 we again had this very Japanese form. But it does not work at all in Denmark and the West. In Japan it is a huge HONOR and the student will train night and day until the student can pay this HONOR back. Unfortunately, the opposite happens most often in Denmark and the West. Shindenkan's project statistics say 25 % kept their word and fulfilled the intention behind it, 40 % quit shortly before the expiration of the honor degree and 35 % wanted to be caliph instead of the caliph without the hard work behind it, and attempted a hostile undemocratic takeover, which culminated in the ultra-rare Japanese HAMON – “deprivation of all honor, degrees and history”, shortly before they were going to lose the work honor degree. So Honoris – work honor degrees – we do not have very good experiences with that 😊. Therefore, this has been abolished based on 7 years of project experience and the six people who had these have been deleted from the roll. Shindenkan again ONLY reflects the same multi-track competencies applicable to everyone according to the purpose clause, statutes and common standardized curriculum manual.
We salute our heroes and heroines!
Katsu-Jin and Kohaku-Jin – with room for everyone;
Concepts were adopted during the 2017 general meetings, after pilot testing and development by Shindenkan's Competence and Development Center (SKUC). The concept is based on facts, statistics and practically applied medicine. Shindenkan's motto is "Room for everyone, the elite as the exerciser". This has included everyone so far, but Strat20 and Strat26 "Fill the ranks, higher, wider and longer" have meant that more people have achieved the competencies for graduation to TG3, TG4 and TG5. Nothing stands still in reality - development is needed.
It is a great success, but does not include everyone. It takes an average of 9-12 years to become a 1st dan in the multi-track system, Yakami Shinsei-ryu. A lot can happen in the course of 9-12 years with physical injuries, illness and operations. But physical injuries do not mean that you do not carry the will in your heart, mind and brain and with the right attitude for development and progression! This is especially true the older you get. It is a natural physical development that is most often founded BEFORE you became a member of Shindenkan.
With the concepts of Kohaku-Jin (recognized mén degree over 8 %) and Katsu-Jin (Age over 50/55/60+ years) it has been taken into account that we pay tribute to our heroes and heroines and you are NEVER too old to learn, develop, train and be good to yourself - and others.
We know from experience that it is not good for yourself or others if you have stalled in your development and progression as a human being for too many years. This is especially true for Yakami Shinsei-ryu brown and black belts with childhood and youth anchors.
But until 2017, we had not had a sustainable concept, where graduates in spe, must pass physical stop tests with "One size fits all - same rules apply to all", - but who are simply semi-disabled and therefore either cannot or as a consequence will end up completely disabled. But they can from 2017 and now! The core of the concept is that anyone can take KataFIT - if they train regularly and do it technically correctly. It is not always optimal in terms of health to take fitness tests with running, cycling, swimming, rowing, IF you have a recognized AES minus percentage more than approx. 12+ % of e.g. knees, hips. We have successfully tested gentle elliptical cross-trainers as an alternative for multiple injury percentages - multiple body parts. But there are still a few who cannot do this properly. The same applies to Shiai – the freestyle test, where fast fluid movements and uncontrollable floor fights are the norm. Age also plays a role here, statistically speaking especially after the age of 45. There is, of course, individual specialist medical assessment on each individual graduate in spe. But the last and decisive word has Yamana-Itotani Sensei, as supreme responsible grading judge.
To meet the same conditions as everyone else, KataFIT can be significantly increased in number. KataFIT not only provides good health, strength and well-being on several levels, but also really good fitness.
We know that statistically for more than 90 % of all KataFIT exercisers, KataFIT 12 S gives the least high fitness index and KataFIT 15S very high fitness index according to the average for the Scandinavian population. In this way, the fitness figure can be compensated and stimulated. We have called this AYAME CHAIRO.
Grading of illness and injury;
Sickness and injury graduation can take place if there are at least three prospective graduates who become healthy enough, within three months of the season, to go up for a sickness and injury graduation, if there are resources for this.
The prerequisite is that all graduates in spe have been formally appointed and are documented injured within the process leading up to formal summer graduation. That is they HAVE started the training course according to formal setting no. 2 and formal setting no. 3.
To avoid speculation, different heights have also been taken for this, which are assessed from person to person. Track record is the starting point. Sickness injuries are usually acute serious physical injuries, such as serious medically documented; 3+ months of fiber ruptures, sprains to broken limbs, over surgeries, brain tumors to long term serious illnesses.
Influenza, colds, etc. are not considered within the accepted disease area.
KATAFIT and SKK – Stretch Ki Kata
KataFIT is a holistic health and health training on several levels, which uses the latest new research, so the training is as effective, injury-preventing and training, stress-reducing and quality-of-life-promoting, in the shortest possible time. KataFIT is trained without aids and can therefore be performed anywhere and at any time. KataFIT forms a bridge between eastern and western research, but according to the KISS principle, just like with the POMW project; Keep IT Simple & Safe. KataFIT has already produced spectacular results that have been noted internationally.
SKK – Stretch Ki Kata
is in optimal and pure execution "Moving meditation". Like KataFIT, SKK is scalable for everyone - from beginner white belt to the first real martial art densho degree; MENKYO - Master of all the Martial arts. The toolbox comes from 1,000 years of essential knowledge put into a system through Yakami Shinsei-ryu. It is quite unique and tailored to the purpose of Shindenkan.
Where KataFIT works on both the inner and outer lines on several levels, KataFIT can be seen especially on the outer lines – a healthy, visible and markedly functionally trained body and posture. In short – Shindenkaners – they just look good! 😊. SKK trains more on the inner lines. Stretching of the body, muscles, ligaments, nerve pathways, etc. But also the body's electrical median pathways and energy nodes – we call it "knocking the rust off the water pipes". In addition, Ki – energy explosions are also trained when extra cleansing is needed and the energy pressure is increased in the water pipes. Together, KataFIT and SKK – IN/YO – Ying/Yang provide extra focus on both body, emotional, psychological, mental and spiritual awareness and attention training. It is also one of Shindenkan's purpose paragraphs – to make a difference in modern society, both for the individual and for everyone, regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, education, social status and starting point. “We meet you where you are and take you on a journey.”
Practical – what is KataFIT? What can you directly compare it to? Most people are happy with the whole-body oriented "Plank exercise" and 1-2 minutes in it. All of the above grads take anywhere from 2 to over 6+ minutes without issue. Which is very good. But when you then add that the Plank is dynamic and requires coordination and movement, at the same time as you have constant whole-body cross muscle tension, then the KataFIT version is usually described as the better dynamic plank form.
Okay, most people say it's very impressive, but there are many others who can also do it with training. Yes, that is absolutely correct. But before this "element", the KataFIT practitioner has already performed two other full-body "exercise elements", such as where you stand in a normal technically correct plank and take slow arm stretches, each lasting approx. 4-12 seconds depending on the three KataFIT version steps, all with correct and optimal breathing, as otherwise the body's energy processes cannot produce enough energy for you to complete this exercise element, especially up to and after KataFIT 8S.
KataFIT is a Kata – i.e. figure exercises that are performed beautifully and fluidly non-stop, as a Budo Kata should be performed – there is basically no difference. A KataFIT 5S, which is the standard starting point in all Shindenkan schools, lasts approx. 22.5 minutes and usually burns between 200-300 KCAL. A KataFIT 12S lasts approx. 38.5 minutes, and a KataFIT 15 takes approx. 46 minutes.
Since KataFIT is both full-body strength training and cardio training, all KataFIT practitioners will achieve a significant improvement in both parts. The above graduates have a conservative fitness score measured by traditional recognized tests of 42 to 61. All without exception reached or close to their maximum heart rate during the KataFIT 8S and 15S. The maximum heart rate is the absolute highest pulse value that your heart can achieve. If your maximum heart rate is 180, this means that your heart has the capacity to beat 180 times a minute when it is under maximum pressure.
Now many may think that "I will never be able to do this!" and it's only for "the big strong muscle boys". But here the answer is that you can do much more than you and others tell you!
And by the way, only three skinny girls and one young man out of about 50-60,000 have passed the highest stop test mark; AYAME GOLD. All the "big strong muscular boys" gave up before or couldn't complete it.
The above are completely ordinary Danes who also felt the same as you might be thinking, until they found out that they could do much more than they thought! In addition, it is far from certain that just because you LOOK strong, that you are, since true strength comes from within. Reality has shown that most people in traditional really good shape have not been able to complete a KataFIT 5S without proper technical and long-term training and instruction. Remember KataFIT and SKK are in their highest form "Moving Meditation".
Many really good strength trainers, after a while in frustration, have abandoned KataFIT around the 8S, and gone back to the gym's more traditional and simple training methods. The main reason is that KataFIT uses both aerobic and anaerobic training methodologies, and the higher the KataFIT number, the more you need oxygen and correctly synchronized breathing between movement and breathing. Otherwise, the body's energy production simply does not work optimally, and therefore even the strongest man or woman in the world comes to a standstill if this is not in place. It is very logical and simple. But some feel it like a straitjacket when you are constantly "training along the edge of the cliff", even though it is quite natural and physiologically conditioned and has been so ever since the origin of man.
KataFIT can be trained by everyone without exception, shape, injuries, without injuries and goals. The KataFIT train takes you on a journey, and even KataFIT 1S, which everyone in Shindenkan starts with, will with 99% make a positive contribution to your quality of life and your life. You are welcome!
KataFIT, which belongs to the 5-year Shindenkan SHIELD KISS project, which replaced the POMW project (www.pomwproject.com – www.pomw.dk ), you can read more about here; (www.shieldkiss.com ).
